In a landmark move to advance sustainability within the global technology sector, UAE-based Dithari Technologies has signed a strategic memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Azerbaijan Technical University (AzTU) to establish the DISC Innovation and Sustainability Laboratory. This collaborative initiative is set to redefine the role of academia and industry in promoting environmental responsibility through cutting-edge technology and education.
The MoU signing ceremony took place at AzTU’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) corner, underscoring the partnership’s alignment with the United Nations’ SDG framework—particularly SDG 12: Responsible Consumption and Production. This symbolic venue reflects the shared vision of both institutions to drive impactful change through sustainable innovation.
The newly launched DISC (Dithari Innovation and Sustainability Center) Lab will act as a catalyst for integrating circular IT practices into educational and industrial ecosystems. By extending the lifecycle of electronic devices through refurbishment and recycling, the initiative aims to significantly reduce e-waste while providing high-quality, affordable technology solutions.
"Our goal is to achieve meaningful e-waste reduction while promoting circular IT solutions. This partnership allows us to merge our industry expertise with academic research, creating long-term impact for communities and the planet."
- Jabeer KM, CEO and Chairman of Dithari.
DISC will also serve as a dynamic platform for research, skill development, and student engagement, with key components including:
- Innovation hub: Focused on developing breakthrough sustainability solutions.
- Recycling and refurbishment facility: Dedicated to producing affordable and eco-friendly tech products.
- Educational programmes: Designed to raise awareness and train future professionals in sustainable IT practices.
- Student engagement initiatives: Hackathons, certification programmes, and hands-on learning experiences.
Commenting on the collaboration, AzTU Rector Vilayat Valiyev stated: "This initiative represents a forward-thinking approach to education and innovation. By combining sustainability with technological advancements, we aim to prepare our students to become environmentally responsible innovators."
At the helm of Dithari Technologies is Jabeer K M, an accomplished entrepreneur with extensive experience in GreenTech and FinTech. As the chairman of Dithari, K M combines his expertise in business development with a commitment to sustainability. His vision for DISC aligns with his broader goal of creating impactful businesses that bridge technology with environmental responsibility.
Jabeer K M added: "Our goal is to achieve meaningful e-waste reduction while promoting circular IT solutions. This partnership allows us to merge our industry expertise with academic research, creating long-term impact for communities and the planet."
This strategic partnership signifies more than just an academic collaboration—it represents a bold step toward bridging the digital divide by making sustainable technology more accessible across borders. Dithari Technologies will contribute technical expertise, environmentally friendly products, and specialised training programmes, while AzTU will provide infrastructure and facilitate student involvement.
The launch of the DISC Innovation and Sustainability Laboratory marks a significant milestone in global sustainability efforts. By empowering students, researchers, and industry professionals, the initiative is poised to shape a new generation of leaders dedicated to building a greener, more inclusive future for all.
